Life is unpredictable; the situations individuals face in a daily basis can be planned or unplanned. Therefore it is important for an individual to be prepared when becoming a parent as this will ensure they can manage their role as a parent effectively and satisfy the changing needs of the dependent. Preparations for becoming a parent can have both positive and negative impact on the dependent’s well-being as if a parent fulfills their role in becoming a parent it will positively impact the dependent’s well-being as they satisfy their needs. However if a parent fails to do so, it can negatively impact the dependents well-being. Hence it’s important for the individuals to be prepared for becoming a parent as their actions can impact their dependent’s well-being.
The four main areas that contribute in preparing individuals to become a parent are:
- Changing health behaviours
- Enhancing knowledge and skills
- Modifying the physical environment
- Organising finances
